I purchased XP home edition about a year ago. I purchased DIRECTLY from the
microsoft website. I installed and got a product CD in the mail later.

My computer crashed yesterday - it loops to the "boot in safe mode" or load
last known configuration" no matter what I select, it just loops back to
there.

So, I used my Windows XP CD that came later and proceeded to reinstall XP
over the windows directory. All went fine, until it asked for the product id.
I cannot find the product ID. I have the CD, but I guess that does me no good
without the product ID. I tried to ask microsoft a question, but of course,
with no product id I cannot even do that. Now my computer is stopped at the
place for the product ID, my wife and kids have turned over the house looking
for that official paper with the product ID to no avail.

Do I have ANY options other than buying a brand new copy of XP?

Thanks for reading this and for any ideas.

You may be able to get a replacement key from Microsoft, otherwise, as you
have reinstalled XP then you will need to purchase a new key.

How to replace Microsoft software or hardware, order service packs and
product upgrades,
or replace product manuals

Youre product id would be in system properties start page, you need the
"product key" , that is located on an orange sticker fixed to the xp cd
folder...
Either way,try tapping the F8 key on pc start up,select safe mode, enter xp as
administrator...If that doesnt work, locate the date of purchase from
microsoft,
with all thier data banks im sure they will help.....

Product Key is the exact phrase it wants me to enter. I ordered it online
from MS and downladed the software and key and then later got the CD. It says
the key is on te back of the folder. I have the folder and the CD, but do not
see any product key code (25 character key). I may have just gotten an email,
but I have looked and looked and cannot find it (I think my hotmail account
expired and then I redid it but lost all email).

But when I try to email microsoft directly about the problem it, they ask
for the product id.

Thanks again!

Download INNOBATE Product Key Recovery, and install it from within
your 'safe mode'. It may or may not install from safe mode, but no
harm in trying.

You can download it from CNET, at the following URL:-
http://www.download.com/Innobate-Product-Key-Recovery/3000-2408_4-10710678.html?tag=lst-2

What this software will do is give you your Product ID Code, which you
can use to give to Microsoft Support. It may even recover your
Product Key Code, depending on how corrupt your computer system's Hard
drive is?

I would like to hear from you if you were able to install this
software via 'Safe Mode' of Windows XP.

Why do you keep pushing your software on people? There are free apps out
there that accomplish the same thing, zero need to pay for one, not to
mention that if you read the OP, he can't get to safe mode.
