I would like some help please. I deleted files from a memory stick
thinking that they were saved onto a folder on the computer. I don't
quite know what happened but they were not saved. So following advice
from this site I downloaded PC Inspector recovery programme and the
files all were saved into a folder. The problem now is that although
it says they are there (and the properties indicate their size etc) I
cannot open them. I have tried different programmes to open them but
all fail. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Sincerely

Bill

Do you have any problems opening
images from other folders?

What format are these files saved in?

Do you receive an error when you try
to open them? What is the error?

Right click on one of these files and the click on Properties, then on the
Summary tab. Do you have the normal information that should be listed there
for a jpg file such as camera model, date picture taken, aperture etc?

Have rt cliked on the files and the properties SUMMARY tab says
"Property summaries are unavailable for the selected source(s)"

The files say that they are "ACDSee 6.0 JPEG image"...I have tried to
open them with windows and other ones but all no luck.

Thanks for any further help (PLEASE!!)

Most cameras use the FAT file system, which does not delete the file, but
simply erases it from the file allocation table. If you still have the
photos on the memory card, I recommend downloading a free program called
Restoration (created by Brian Kato). Restoration can perform
sector-by-sector recovery of your files from a FAT file system. It is easier
to use Restoration with a memory card reader, but you can also try using it
directly. You can download Restoration at:

http://www.bucksportschools.com/download/Recover/REST2514.EXE.

Simply open the file, and extract it to a convenient location. Open
Restoration, and select the camera or memory card reader. You will need to
recover the files one by one, but the sector-copy tools are excellent, and
Restoration has helped me recover many deleted pictures off my memory card.
I hope that these suggestions will help you solve your problem.

Best regards,
Kit

Does not look good to me if you cannot read the information under Summary. I
don't want to bring a bad message but if this information is not there it
would be a sign that the file is corrupted. Yes you can use software to
recover deleted photo files but no software available as far as I know to
recover a corrupted photo files. You can use google etc. and search for
"corrupted jpg file" and find software such as
http://www.officerecovery.com/pixrecovery/
but I have not seen any success with such. If it does work for you let us
know.

I have tried the above suggestions and thank you very much for them.
Unfortunately, although it says that the pictures are there (and even
gives their corrrect size etc in the properties) it will not allow me
to open them. When the recovery programme found them I wonder why it
does not allow me to open them. and I am intrigued as to where they
were/are hiding anyway!

Thanks

Could you e-mail one of the images to the
following address so I can experiment with
opening it?
