I ran a recovery of my windows XP to clean all viruses
but lost all my photos in My "MY PICTURES" file, are
these lost for ever or is there a way to pull them up
from somewhere, Please help thanks

Make a new folder on your C drive.
Name it Recovery
Go to this site:
http://www.foto-erhardt.de/modules.php?name=Downloads
Download the free file: Digital Image Recovery in your Recovery folder.
The file will be Digital Image Recovery.zip
Once in your folder you need to "unzip" or "extract" this .zip file.
When you unzip or extract this .zip file select your Recovery folder for the
destination.
You will now have the file: 32fsu21.exe in this folder.
Double click on it to install the software.
Once installed you can change the language from German to English when the
software start.
Follow the directions on your screen after you start this software, very
easy to use and very good.

Maybe you never used a zip/unzip software. If so post again and I will find
a free one for you or just use google to find one.
Several available.

Whatever you do (there are also other softwares to do this that others will
suggest) use your computer as little as possible under you recover so that
you do not overwrite on these photo files.

Sorry, the software I suggested in my post is to recover picture files from
memory cards used in digital cameras. I know it works for them but I have no
idea if it would work to recover from your hard drive.
Here is another site with software to recover pictures from your hard drive:
http://www.lc-tech.com/Filerecovery.htm
I have never tried it, so I don't know how well it works.

Here's another possible candidate for
retrieving the lost images. Truth is, I
would be amazed if these files can be
recovered from a system that has had
the OS reinstalled.

Restorer 2000

Please let us know if you are able to
recover the image files...and how you
accomplished it.

The same thing happened to me. There is a program that
came with Norton's Internet Security 2004 called GoBack.
The edition that came in the package is the personal
version and you don't have the ability to recover files
or documents, but the delux version is suppose to give
you all the capabilities. Trying to upgrade now, I will
let you know if it works.
