Lost .pdf form when "print to file" box was checked?

My wife spent a lot of time filling out a .pdf insurance form, and when
finished went to print it out. It asked for a file name, she entered it, and
closed the form.

Instead of getting a filled out .pdf form, we have a 'not extension' print
file???

Can't find anything that will open it, tried adding different extensions,
tried dragging it to the printer icon.

Anyone know how I can salvage this?

Thanks,

Pete Albright, Tampa, FL

What is your default printer and how is it connected? With any luck, this
is a print file formatted for your default printer which you may be able to
"copy" to it.

Default printer is an HP PSC 2400, on a local USB cable.

I have tried dragging and dropping the file, and copy and paste. I get an
alert ...try
opening the file with the correct application...

OK, that leaves two thing to try. First, on the odd chance that Acrobat
saved the file as a .PDF instead of a print image, try adding .PDF to the
file name and see if Acrobat will open it. If it did, in fact, create a
print image file, we need to try copying it to the printer. Since its a USB
printer, we first need to map it to an LPT port:

Printing from DOS with Windows 2000 or XP

Then we copy the file to the printer from a DOS (Command) prompt:

Copy /b (filename) LPT1

If the file is a print image, the above line will attempt to send the file
to the printer WITHOUT attempting to launch an application to render and
print it. This is what happens when you drag the file to a printer icon,
the file system looks for an application to open it, render it, and print
it; if it were a Word document, this would entail launching Word, opening
the file, then having Word render it and send it to the printer.
