I stored a computer for several years and recently
reasserted it and forgot the password. Any ideas on how I
can gain access to this computer?

I personally haven't tried this, but maybe this will
work. If not, I have used the software at
www.lostpassword.com. It's a bit pricey though.

Here ya go,

http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/

Download Rawrite if you don't already have it and install
it.
http://uranus.it.swin.edu.au/~jn/linux/rawwrite.htm

Then download this file and unzip it to a temp directory
or somewhere you can find it easily.

http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/bd030426.zip

Start Rawwrite and get yourself a floppy. It will write
over anything you have on that floppy so make sure it's a
floppy you don't need.

Use Rawwrite to navigate to where you unzipped the
bd030426.bin file
Click on Write.

Now put take that floppy and place it into the WinNT
machine and boot up the machine.
Use the defaults that the utility prompts you with.
use * to set the Administrator password to blank.
Rebbot the NT machine

Username: Adminsitrator or administrator
password: Blank, Nothing, nada

Hit enter. It should let you in.

Keep Floppy safe. Very dangerous. This is why nobody has
access to my servers.

Hello Jay,
If a user password is lost, forgotten, or unknown, the only method to reset
the password is for the administrator (or a user with administrative access)
to log on and reset the password in Computer Management. There is no method
in the Windows 2000 security model to bypass, disable, or reset the
password.

If the administrator password is lost, forgotten, or unknown, access to the
computer may not be obtainable and the operating system may need to be
reinstalled.

Thank You.
