Lost Password - HELP!

I worked on a persons XP Home PC and the User Name and Password worked
fine for the 3 days I worked on it. She called Yesterday morning and said
she couldn't logon and it was her first try. She brings the PC back and
sure enough I can't logon as her. I tried the Administrator account but I
didn't know the password since I didn't originally set it up so I tried
blank. The message I get is "Window could not log you on because of account
restrictions" I've never seen this message before. Does anyone have any
idea how to get logged onto a Windows XP machine if the password is lost or
corrupt?

Use this:
http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/

Then see if the account has been disabled. This could be due to malware
that's been floating about lately as more and more people seem to be popping
up with password issues. Try a scan with some of the tools here:

Hey thanks. The utility is like NT Locksmith. It took me 4 tries but
finally got the user account reset. Something is still wrong with the
Administrator account. It would not reset the password and it's showing as
blank but I get the message that about restrictions, which I think means
it's set to where Administrator can't be a blank password. Also looking at
the list of accounts it says Administrator attempts 1 , restrictions (or
something like that) 0. Which I think it's telling me that a blank
password is not allowed, even though that's what the password is, and you
aren't allowed any bad attempts.

I am now logged on as a user with Admin rights so is there anyway to fix
the Administrator password? I think you are right about adware/mallware
doing something to the account passwords.

Start > run > type "control userpasswords2" highlight the offending account,
click reset password... Be sure to check the link provided earlier and to
scan your PC.
