lost password & Active Dir

My admin password has been eaten (imagine that!). I was
reading through the posts and saw where someone was able
to access the Active Dir to go in and reset passwords.
I'd like to know how to do that so I don't have to attempt
to reinstall the OS.

If the machine is part of the domain, and you have not removed the "domain
admins" group from the local administrators group, Logon as an
administrator of the domain and reset the local administrator's password
(if you have used EFS there may be data loss). If it is not part of the
domain there is not much that can be done.
