I'm sorry to impose on people like this, but I have the following
problem. I have a 30 gb harddisk as my system-drive and recently got a
160 gb harddrive. I partitioned this harddrive into 3 parts, 1 copy of
my 30 gb FAT32 drive via Partion Magic 8.1, a second 25 gb FAT32
partition, and a third 100 gb NTFS partition.

My (possibly very stupid) plan was to to unhook the original 30 gb
drive and have WinXp repair the cloned partition's MBR during bootup
so that I could use this as my Systemdrive. That is when my problem
began.

WinXp did not see the individual partitions and just saw the 160 gb as
unpartioned space. After hooking up my old drive again and booting
into WinXP, I could also no longer see the partitions on the 160 gb
drive.

My setup prior to the problem is as follows:

30 gb seagate Master (now set as slave -> DISK 2) C:
160 gb samsung slave (now set as master -> DISK 1)
partitions: F: 20 gb (FAT32)
G: 25 gb (FAT32)
H: 100 gb (NTFS)

I have run the Findpart utility on Disk 1, and saw on different
threads, that Svend was able to write a bat-file to write a new
partion table, unfortunatley I don't know if this is possible in my
case or how to write it. I would really appreciate any help I can get
on recovering the partitions, as the data on there is of vital
importance.

Here are the Findpart-results for Disk 1:

Findpart, version 4.37 - for Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP.
Copyright Svend Olaf Mikkelsen, 2003.

Searches for partitions type 01, 04, 06, 07, 0B, 0C, 0E, 82, 83,
plus Fdisk F6 and Lilo sectors. Information based on bootsectors
is marked B. If the disk is larger than supported by BIOS, the
supported part of the disk is examined. Disks are numbered from 1.

This will require two steps. First you can download vince1.bat in

http://inet.uni2.dk/~svolaf/vince1.zip

put vince1.bat in the same directory as findpart.exe, and run
vince1.bat, which contains:

set findpart=edit
findpart 1 0 1 - 85 40636 0 1 310100 15 63 0 310101 16 63 26
set findpart=
findpart 1 table fp1-1.txt

If possible, do not reboot.

Mail me the file fp1-1.txt. Google is too slow for this.

It is assumed that the partition tables on the disk were not changed
since Findpart was run.

Hi,

I have run the .bat file and not rebooted. I have sent you an email
with the results, which I copied below:

Hi Svend,

Thank you very much for your support.

I have done as you suggested. As far as I know, the partition tables
have not been changed since FP was run.

Here are the results of FP1-1.TXT.

The extended partition was first made type Linux extended to verify
the extended partition tables before the type was changed to 0F.

Having a 16 heads translation on a 152628 MB disk may be potential
trouble. The usual translation would be 255 heads, but it cannot be
changed with partitions on the disk.

The original problem may have been caused by the type hex 55 EZ drive
disk manager partition table entry, which may confuse partitioning
tools, since Windows XP returns the first sector for a read sector 0
command, but uses the second sector for the main partition table.
