Daniel

I posted this with Microsoft Assisted Support and have
received no answer, so I thought I would try the Microsoft
communities.

Problem Description: I contacted online assisted support
about this yesterday, and have received no response, so I
thought I would ask again and give more detail.

I was using my computer, including Outlook 2000 and
everything was working perfectly. I got an automatic
notice about a Windows update (the little world with the
Windows flag). I closed all applications and performed the
update successfully, and did a restart.

When I tried to launch Outlook 2000, I got an error
message that my .pst file was missing - and it is. Why did
the update cause this, and how do I recover my .pst file -
I need to use my email ASAP.

This is the history of the update:
Successful Thursday, October 16, 2003 Security Update for
Microsoft Windows (KB824141) Automatic update
Successful Thursday, October 16, 2003 Security Update for
Microsoft Windows (KB823182) Automatic update
Successful Thursday, October 16, 2003 Security Update for
Microsoft Windows 2000 (KB826232) Automatic update
Successful Thursday, October 16, 2003 Security Update for
Microsoft Windows 2000 (KB825119) Automatic update
Successful Thursday, October 16, 2003 Security Update for
Microsoft Windows 2000 (KB828035) Automatic update

Outlook was working immediately before, and pst file was
gone immediately after this update. No other operations
were performed.

Please Help!!
Thanks,
Daniel

Enable Windows 2000 search to find hidden and system folders. Then search
for your .pst file - you may have several. If you know the name of your .pst
file (outlook.pst, or yourname.pst, or mailbox.pst) then also search for any
files with the same name but a .bak extension (these would be backup files.)

Report back if you have any success - I have *never* had Windows Update hose
any of my installations, let alone the .pst file.

Have you done a complete search for your *.pst file?
Do you have an unerase file on your hard drive that you can check to
recover a deleted *.pst file?

FYI.

1. You should always change the default location of your *.pst file to
another location on your computer, preferably on another logical
partition on your hard drive seperate and distinct from your program
files. That way it will never be deleted.

2. You should always backup your *.pst file before you
make/change/restore/upgrade any outlook setttings
