Lost our root with no backup pdc

We lost our PDC root, we had no tape backup and no backup domain controller.
Is there any way to replace the root without having to reconfigure active
directory for all of the child domains(mostly win2000 servers). Tried the
seizing command, no help.

I would venture to say that if you lost the only domain controller in the
root domain and don't have a backup, you're probably out of luck.
Did you have any additional controllers in this root domain?

We have domain controllers but they are children of the parent which was
lost.

Then things do not look so good, unfortunately! This is why we almost
always suggest that there are at least two DCs for each Domain - especially
if it is the root domain. Not trying to be a poopy pants, but it looks like
the whole forest is gone!

Thanks for the advice, kind of had that feeling . looks like a lot of work
ahead.
