Hello,

i'd like to change the IP-adress of my network adapter to 192.168.0.1. A
warning msg occurs, explaining me, that there is another network device,
that uses this ip. I dont have any other network adapter in my system. But
my current one has a #2 at the end.

How can i find the #1 and delete it, or at least give this IP free. It can
not be found in the Device Manager.

Thx

If you read the warning carefully then you will probably see
that another network adapter in your machine (not currently
active) uses this address. You are given the opportunity to
reuse the same address. Reuse it!

If this is not the case then you should ping the address
in question, then disconnect all PCs to see if the problem
disappears. You can then reconnect one PC at a time to
find the culprit.

I can reuse it, and i did (ipconfig confirmed)

but my ICS doesnt work any more. Can this be related?

In Device Manager, click "View" | "Show Hidden Devices".
Remove networkadapter#1.

There 'ya go ... problem solved.

Hi Scare,

From the Internet Connection Sharing information provided by the Windows 2000 Help
file and the Windows 2000 Professional Resource Kit, ICS it is automatically assigned
the private IP address 192.168.0.1 (subnet 255.255.255.0) and you can not modify the
default configuration.

For more information search Windows 2000 Help for "192.168.0.1" and read the topic
returned and the "For information" link titled "Internet connection sharing". Also,
see the following Windows 2000 Resource Kit Chapter.

The Windows 2000 Professional Resource Kit (Online)
Chapter 22 - TCP/IP in Windows 2000 Professional
SECTION: Enable Internet Connection Sharing
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/windows2000pro/reskit/part4/proch22.asp

Note: "Table 22.7 ICS System Configuration Modifications" has a typo. "Configured
for the reserved private IP address 192.186.0.1..." should read "...private IP
address 192.168.0.1..."
