Lost NetBios Names

Hi All,

On the server:
Windows 2000 SBS
Routing and Remote access configued and using DHCP on the server
Also installed Norton Content filter 8.5
All hotfixes and & service packs applied to the server
Connects to internet with cable broadband and a SOHO dlink router with the
VPN port open.

All remote stations:
Windows XP Pro with SP1

Everything was working fine, then after applying a bunch of the hotfixes the
remote stations can no longer browse the network.

They connect ok, but when doing a seach for Server1 they can't find it, when
pinging server1 it cannot even find the IP and pinging server1.domain.com
does not work either (don't not even resolve the IP) and it used to. But I
can ping it by internal IP of 192.168.1.2 along with all the other computers
and I can map drives using IP but not the server name.
The big problem is that Outlook can no longer find the server because it is
configured using Server1 for the name. If I change that to IP then it
works.

Any ideas? I have disabled routing and remote access and reconfigued it
with no luck.

Thanks

Lee

Check DNS on the server. Run a Netdiag /v from the W2K Server and see how
DNS looks.

XP Clients will choke is they are unable to successfully resolve the DNS
name of the server. Also check time, as the Kerberos tickets could be
expired as well.
