I have 2 internal hard drives, D & D. Suddenly the D drive does not appear
under My Computer on in Explorer. Any ideas how to get it back into the
system?
Win XP 2E
Thanks & Happy 4th.

Is the drive being detected in the BIOS? If not the drive could be damaged
or possibly the drive has become disconnected physically. I've had that
happen. If the drive is not being listed in the BIOS shut down the computer,
open the case and ensure the cables tot eh drive are snugly seated. Then
reboot. If the drive is still not being detected it could be damaged.

I have a 30gig drive and in disk management it shows that the drive is emptya nd asks if i want to format it. is my data lost???? where did it go??? help please all my media files are on that drive

mmm, lost the MBR I guess?
Bet it's NTFS too, huh?
There is a fix for that to rebuild the MBR.
I reckon I saw it on Gibson's site. Fix for the CIR is here.
I'm not an expert & encourage you to read & make up your own mind.

Might just be a loose cable?

I'd really like to help but I just can't take that responsability. lol
I've just had a computer do a similar thing on me & suspect some new "bug"
that hasn't been publicised yet.
In my particular case, I eventually detirmined that somehow the bios chip
got "wiped out". I couldn't even boot a floppy. It didn't even show the bios
screen at all.
I hot flashed the chip in another computer & everything was back to normal.
Do you have access to another comp to mount that HD as a slave & see if all
the files & folders are intact?
Still looking like a corrupt MBR at this stage.

Sorry I can't help. Ask in Steve Gibsons forum?
I think he has his own news server too.
