Lost my Power Schemes for IBM Laptop

I have an IBM t42p laptop computer. It came with some preset power schemes
to modify battery use. Microsoft's Anti-Spyware recognized the files as
being spyware. Since I did not know for sure that these recognized files
were the same preset power schemes, I had them quarantined. As soon as I
realized they were the power schemes, I had them restored. They immediately
came back after restoration, but after I restarted my computer they were
gone again. I have no option to restore them and reinstalling the IBM
Battery Maximizer will not restore them. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

K

Windows version?

I suggest you discontinue testing this beta, Keith, and uninstall it.

Thank you for your suggestions but neither the system restore nor the
uninstallation solved my immediate problem with recovering the power
schemes. I really appreciate your willingness to help.

Thanks,

Keith

Get HijackThis.exe from
http:/www.tomcoyote.com/hjt/HijackThis.exe

Save it then Open it and SCAN your system then SAVE LOG
and send me the HijackThis log as an attachment. You can
try just copying it and pasting it into a reply but I
might not see it. I may be able to identify the
problem and tell you how to fix it.

What if you just create new ones? You surely know
you can define your own power schemes.

I have pretty much tried every obvious solution that I could think of and
has been suggested. What is surprising is that there was no way to manually
delete the factory-set power schemes using the Battery Maximizer program,
and now the program will not even save newly created schemes. After calling
IBM, it looks as if I will have to reimage my computer to reset it to the
factory-shipped settings. Thank you for all of your suggestions.

Hmm - that's ugly, and it will be uglier if this happens to more users.

Yours is the second that I have seen that indicates a problem with the
restore from Quarantine function (i.e. data restored, and then lost after a
reboot.)

The other case was a Kazaa user who lost his music files which reside under
the Kazaa install directory.

Do you have the cleaner.log file from the Microsoft Antispyware install
directory--typically c:\program files\Microsoft Antispyware ?

I wonder whether, with the aid of that file you could spot the files
involved and figure out a way to replace them from another laptop of the
same model?

And, I wonder whether the information in that file might pinpoint what
threat Microsoft Antispyware saw these files as.

This is a nasty bug in a couple of ways--the loss of the power schemes,
which seem to be difficult to replace, and the failure of the remove from
Quarantine functionality in the product.

I'm hoping that we can recover a bit more information from your system about
what happened.

I see we have the model number of the laptop in your initial message, but
the additional information about what threat was detected, and what files
were quarantined, might also be helpful.

Oh yeah--one more item: I get so caught up in the technical issues in these
posts, that sometimes I forget:

Thanks very much for persisting in reporting your experience here. This is
very helpful feedback, and it'll help make the product better. I'm certain
that Microsoft appreciates your effort.

i found this thread while searching for

lost power schemes

on google... i must say that i don't have microsoft antispyware installed, but i got the same problem, so i think it's not related to the microsoft antispyware software at all =)

hope this helps... gotta move on and search the web on my problem with ibm x31 thinkpad =)
