Try uninstalling back to the previous version by
using Add/Remove Programs. or if you are running XP
or ME you can find a Restore Point earlier than you
were having problems. Go to Help and look for
Restore Points. It's straight forward. If you get
it going, I would run an external virus scan at
www.antivirus.com or
http://securityresponse.symantec.com after running,
if you find any infections, write the name down and
search Google for the virus name +the word "virus".
Find Fix Sheets by TrendMicro or Network Associates
or Symantec and print them. Symantec is getting to
where they make using their a necessity to get rid
of infections, so I'm not thrilled about using
theirs anymore.
If you don't have any infections, go to this site
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/default.asp and
download Internet Explorer 6 with Service Pack 1.
Make sure you will be able to have a connection for
a pretty good while for dial-ups, and download the
Network version, if you have broad band. That way
you will be able to install it again from your
computer. I would make a folder called "downloads"
under the %RootDrive% (usually C:\ ) and make a
folder in the download folder called IE6SP1 and the
download can go there. Later you can delete the
folder IE6SP1. If you d/l the network version after
through, d/c setup.exe in the folder, and it will
load easily.
