hi i have just installed a 2nd hard drive ,i had to
disconect the floppy to access the cables, afterwards the
floppy did't work, i have checked all the conections they
are all secure and the right way round, the device manager
says this is working properly, i boot up normally from
the hard drive, but set it to boot from the floppy in
case i needed to use the 98 start up disc ,now it says on
start up "floppy drives not found. 40". so i have to
press f1 to get going.no problem, but i use the floppys a
lot,i have noticed on removing the floppy drive to check
round it that there is a pin missing 33 not 34 is this ok
or could this be the problem,
any ideas

Windows Device Manager says it's OK but the BIOS message
says it's not found ? I doubt it. If it's not found by
the BIOS, Windows CANNOT see it.

It's a cable problem, recheck it - take the cable out,
LOOK at the interface, plug it back in and try again. Also
check the floppy connection to the motherboard. Put your
HAND on it and make sure it is all the way down. This is
a VERY easy mistake to make, I'll bet you dollars to
doughnuts it's a cable problem. A missing pin is not the
problem, although you could have flattened one of the pins
when you plugged the cable back in. Look at it with a
flashlight.

Good Luck ! You have my sympathy 'cause computer problems
are a pain in the back pocket but . . . you just worked on
the inside of the system - that's where the problem is !
