I was cleaning up my computer users and wanted to add a password so my
youg son would not get access to the internet and other games. In
doing so I removed myself as a user. I added the same name back but I
can not access the typical desktop and My Documents as usual. I see
them saved in the directory explorer. How do I reassign those same
files to my new user name?

Move them from the old location to your new user account location -
C:\Documents and Settings\<your user name>

To elaborate a bit on Richard's reply, Windows normally creates a new
profile for a user, even if the user has the same username as a previous
user. If the original user was "fred" and had a profile, and you create new
user "fred" the profile will be created as "fred.LocalMacheName" or "fred.1"
or something. You can copy the relevant stuff from the old profile to the
new profile manually, or you can use the profile copy feature to get it all.
For the profile copy to work you must be logged in as a different user than
either the one who's profile is being copied or the one who's profile is
being copied to. You must be an adminstrator, and it works best if the new
user is also an administrator, even just temporarily - until after the first
logon after the profile has been copied. To access the profile copy feature,
right-click My Computer, select properties, advanced tab, user profiles,
settings button, select the profile you want to copy (make SURE you select
the right one!). then browse to the C:\Documents and Settings folder and
select the new user's profile. You'll get a warning that the profile will be
overwritten (which is why it's so important to be SURE you're selecting the
right ones). After a few minutes depending on the amount of info being
copied, you can log back in as the new user and everything (email accounts,
desktop wallpaper, application settings, you name it) will be just as
before.

Kurt, I tried this but in the box of user porfiles I get "Unknown
Account" and the copy profile button is inactive.
