Lost my Desktop

i was working on my laptop and noticed that my desktop is not there anymore. I don't have anything on the monitor but the wallpaper when i start up or reboot. I can only open items with the taskmanagerand that is the only way that Ihave been able to use my laptop. if there is anyone out there that has a little knowledge in this area that could help me I would sure appreciate it
