Lost my CD drive and my DVD drive

I dont know if it was a mistake I am making or if it is due to some patch I have failed to apply? But my cd & dvd are both gone from my computer window and I dont know where to look for them other than on my setup disc and im afraid I will mess something up if I load them from setup disc. Can you please help???
 
Hi Linda R,

Are your CD and DVD drives listed in Device Manager, and, if so, are error
messages Code 31, Code 32 or Code 19 showing in Device Status for them? If
this is the case, have a look at this MSKB article:

If you are hesitant to manually edit the registry, you could d/load and
apply the fix that is intended to solve the above from Doug Knox's site:

Try System Restore:
Go to Start, Help & Support, System Restore . . .
