Lost my CD burner and DVD Drives

Not sure what is going on. I ran the famous MS Windows update and it
had a hardware update for my VIA motherboard. Since then BOTH my CD
Burner and DVD driver are unknown. Here is the message from the
Device manager for each of the devices:

Windows cannot start this hardware device because its
configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged.
(Code 19)

Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device.

I have tried to delete (uninstall) the devices, I have cleared out the
registry and tried to reboot... the same issue keeps coming back. I
need help with this one.

System Restore.

You cold ty going to each of the drives into device manager and click on
properties of each and click drivers and ask it to roll back the driver to
the previous one.
 
If you are using Windows 98, re-install over existindg Windows folder
wil so.
If you are using Windows XP, try go to safe mode, under system
properties / hardware / device manager, remove ide controller &
anything that has "VIA" under system device & also "plag & play
emu...... " , restart & let Windows re-detect your hardware.
