After downloading the W2KSP4_E Service Pack (took 18 hours)
in order to get to the blaster patch, I've lost Microsoft
Office including word, excel, money, sending e-mail. My
news page still appears, I can receive e-mail but, the
application doesn't seem to be there. A message keeps
popping up to load the appropriate CD Rom. I don't have it
because the computer was purchased used with Microsoft
2000 Professional already loaded.

Any help would be appreciated!!

We had huge problems with this at work to start with but have a fix now.
It happens (to us anyway) when applying SP4 to a machine with SP1 or none.
Applying SP4 to a SP2 machine seems to be okay.

Unfortunately, I cannot remember the exact details - if you have had no luck
by Tuesday night, I will find out from my notes at work and post.

In WINNT\system32 there are some msi*.dll files. One of these (this is the
bit I need to check) needs deleting (or renaming).

Remove Office related shortcuts from the start up folder and reboot.
This is the funny bit, for some reason you need to reboot again.

Then you need to re-install InstMSIW.exe - the windows installer.

With a following wind, problem solved.

Like I say, I can let you know the file name Tuesday night if you have no
luck. I can also supply the installer file is necessary.

File name to remove (rename to be safe) is msisip.dll.

Valerio's suggestion is probably best though.
