lost login "account unknown"

forum, I have a similar problem that I've seen posted but
with a twist. I recently changed my computer from a
domain to a workgroup and my problem is I can't login
with my old login name. When I log in as administrator (
I do have the administrator login & passwd) my old login
is not listed under users. If I look in my computer
network id i see a unknown user account with the same
date as when I made the domain change with lots of data.
Question: can I somehow convert that unknown user account
to a new account? import or something? I'm trying to get
back to some old data that I believe is still there I
just can't access it. Any thoughts and all replies would
greatly be appreciated. Thanks

Boot your machine with a Win98 boot disk from
www.bootdisk.com. You must then run ntfsdos.exe
from www.sysinternals.com so that you can copy your
files to floppy disk and ultimately to a different PC. This
might be a good time to review your backup strategy - if
a file is important then you must back it up at least
every week.

Ultimately you will have to ask your network administrator
for a local admin account / password.

You must take it back to work and a network admin will have to join it back
to the domain.
