Lost License No for a Software Program

Some time ago I purchased and downloaded an upgrade for a software
program, which I own. Recent problems with a virus required me to
restore my whole windows XP Home system and loose all my data etc.
Luckily I had backup copies of most things including the downloaded
upgrade, but I have mislaid the license number that I originally
received as an email. I cannot log on to the upgraded program without
first entering the License number. I have emailed the supplier of the
upgrade asking for help, but I have not had a reply. Is there any way
in which I can retrieve the License Number? It must be held somewhere
in my computer, in the program or in the Registry.

I would be most grateful for any suggestions please. I do hope that
someone can help.

Many thanks

My best idea is to download 'Belarc Advisetr' (free) from;

Thanks Patrick, I have now tried Belarc Advisetr as you suggested.
This could be a useful program. It has recorded the presence of the
softwareand that it was modified in September last year, but does not
include the License Number. Any other ideas? I would expect the number
to be recorded in the Registry, but have no idea where to look.

Even if it IS in the registry (and you can try searching it for the program
name), the product code is likely to be obfuscated and unreadable by humans.
About your only hope here is the people who provided the key originally.
Myself, whenever I get a product id over the email, I print the mail out &
file it safely...

Incidentaly, what is the program you're having problems with?

Thanks for your help. I am feeling rather a fool. I have a special
file in which I keep any important Technical Data for safe keeping.
Having had problems with various pieces of equipment in the past I have
downloaded various papers etc to help me solve or at least understand as
far as I am able the various technical details involved. This file I had
carefully backed up. Amongst these technical papers etc I have just
discovered the email which gave me the all important License number,
put there obviously for safe keeping. It is just one of the problems of
growing old. I still have good ideas and intentions, but not the memory
to match. I'm going to open a separate file for License Numbers.

Anyway thanks for trying to help. I'm just sorry that I have
demonstrated my lack of memory to the world. I would have prefered to
let people find out on their own.

Best wishes

Don

When you do be sure to back it up to a disk and maybe even print out a copy.
