Win XP SR2 Internet Explorer 6
--------------
Hope this is easy.
On some web sites, I am unable to view images. The most popular is
amazon.com. I can find no way to view pictures of a product. By far, I
can see images in most web sites but just a few refuse to give me
anything but graphics. Well, I do see a very small image of something
where the actual image is supposed to be.
How do I get the images back?

More likely, I am using poor terminology, because, for example, I can see
pictures/images at news.google.com but not in amazon.

What security software do you have installed, if any.
Are you using any sort of ad-filtering software or file?

Thanks for the link.
Parental Control 'not installed on this computer.'
Just for kicks, I disabled McAfee and tried some web sites. The few that
failed to show images still failed to show images.

Empty the cache and try again to see if this makes a difference.

What is the file type of the missing images? Are they all .gif, .jpg, .png?

Lots more troubleshooting here on missing images in IE:
http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/answers/51.html
(One common issue with missing images could be your firewall.)
Don't know how to find the file type for individual images. I know
that on the pages I checked, all images were jpg or gif but none
displayed. EXCEPT . . . I did learn if I right-click on an image and
choose 'View image' I CAN see the image. What does this suggest?

That you are using a so-called download accelerator, perhaps provided by your ISP.
View image is not a standard menu item when right-clicking a .gif or .jpg

If you need more help try to find a more specific example of where you are
seeing your problem symptom. FWIW if I open just http://amazon.com/
the only image on that page I would consider useful for trying to help you
diagnose your symptom as reported would be the logo at the bottom of the
page:

http://ec1.images-amazon.com/images/G/01/gno/images/general/navAmazonLogoFooter._V28232323_.gif

E.g. all the rest have links associated with them (as evidenced by having the
mouse pointer hovering over them changing to a Hand icon) so right-clicking
them might be doing something other than treating them as simple images.

Is that Amazon logo one of the problem images and do you see View Image
in *its* right-click menu? What happens if you choose E-mail Picture... instead?

No difference

Hi,
Do the images load if you hit F5 (refresh) or Ctrl+F5 ?

Another possibility...
Try deleting the Temporary Internet Files folder for the affected user
account. A new folder will be created on restart. Login as another user with
administrator privileges, or from the machine's default administrator
account (startup in safe mode.) Make sure that you can see hidden and system
files (Folder Options> View) Then delete the affected TIF folder from
Windows Explorer. It will be at [C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local
Settings\Temporary Internet Files] Restart.
