Lost Icon, trashed program.

In my start menu, there is a program called "Set Program Access and
Defaults". It seems
to have lost it's icon. Instead, it has the default icon that is there, when
a programs icon isn't
there, or hasn't loaded up yet. I tried the change icon option, but I can't
find the original. Also,
when I click on it, nothing happens. I think that the whole program somehow
got trashed. I
don't want to re-install the whole operating system (Windows XP) but I'd
like to fix this. I
have an external hard disk with EVERYTHING backed up from 07/03/04 when this
still worked
and had an icon. Should I just dump everythiing in the backup copy of that
programs directory back
into the same directory on my computer?

I delete that icon in the start-menu anyway. It's just added clutter, and
MS only put it there becuase they had to.

Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs

bottom icon on the left pane.

Also, there was a Windows Update that moved this icon onto the main programs
column a while ago.

OT here, but have you seen the image posted here lately of what Amethyst, Cassandra, Black Aliss looks like? She is exactly as you described her a year ago! check it out!

She is not the one with the long nice hair, and not a guy!

That explains your totally empty desktop.

Still, I'd like to get it back. It's not just the icon, it's the whole
program that doesn't
seem to work now. Couldn't I just copy my backup directory into the
directory
where it is now? Anyone else?

Here is another question. My "Set Program Access and Defaults" has a
creation date of September 23, 2003 even though I got my computer
on 02/12/2002. I've been reading on the internet that It was installed on
the computer from Microsoft Service Pack 1. So, I downloaded it
onto my computer AFTER I got it? If I want to re-do it, could I just get
this Microsoft Service Pack 1 again?
