Lost "Get External Data" Command

Experimenting with customizing the menu bar, I deleted
this command from the File menu. Unfortunately, I cannot
seem to find it in the Customize window. Can anyone tell
me how I can get it back?

(not sure if I got your description correctly.)

Just right-click in the empty area of the MenuBar and select Customize.

Select the "Menu Bar" and hit the "Rest" button.
