I have a shortcut to a network drive on my desktop and
when im using a program such as excel, i use the dropdown
menu to find the shortcut and save it to the network
drive. Now the problem is that when i save it and try to
access it later on, the file is not there. I have run a
search and it finds a shortcut of the file and the file is
located under documents and settings. Does anyone know if
this is a programming error and if there is a fix could I
have a link.

Sincerely,
Dan

When you save a shortcut,...that is exactly what you do,..you save a
shortcut. If you want to save a file, you have to save the file.

Maybe you don't understand what im tryin to say. I have a
shortcut on my desktop to a drive on a server and when i
try to save to that drive it creates a shortcut of the
file im trying to save. But when you run a search that
file is located on the C: and not the network drive. This
has happened using the drop down menu in say excel, word,
etc...

hmm...don't know about that. Did you post in one of the Office goups and see
if anyone had that issue with any of the Office products?

You may need to redirect 'where' files are saved. If you want them saved on
a network drive (for all documents and files) right click on my documents
and then properties and redirect the 'target drive' to the share on the
server - if you want only some files - say Excel or Word - saved on the
server - each of these programs has a way to redirect the files that you
create within it - usually under tools - options (this could vary) By
default everything is saved locally unless you change these settings.
