Forgive my lack of correct terminology please. I had a website, which I had
designed for me. The html was given to me and I uploaded via Frontpage 2003.
Some how I have lost all files relating to my website when I opened my
Frontpage. SO, if my website is still up and running, can I get my files back
onto my Frontpage/Computer??

If your online site has the FP SE
- open the Online site in FP and Publish it to your PC
File Open Site
(and enter you online site URL as http://www.yoursitename.com/ )
Then use File Publish and for the Remote site select a folder on your PC (say C:\Myweb)

Hi I can't open my web in FP, it says the site doesn't have frontpage server
extentions installed. Now what?

Create a new empty site in FP. Sign on to your server using Filezilla or
another 3rd party ftp program. Publish all files that belong to your site
from the server to your computer.

Open the site in fp > Recalculate hyperlinks. Check that things are working
the way you expect. If you are using navigation bots, not sure how they will
fare. Make a backup of your site as you work on it so this does not happen
again.

Hi Pat, What do you mean by create a new empty site in FP? I don't have any
of my files or graphics on my comp. That is kinda my problem, otherwise I
could just re-do my site. I did how ever go to each web page and C&P the
source html and make new pages in FP. But there is no option for publish to
web when I open them, so I can not make any changes correct? I did download
Filezilla, where do I go from here? Thanks, Sheri

That's because you did not follow Pat's first sentence; create a NEW EMPTY
website first (on your local machine)....that will create the container to
hold your web site's files.

Now you set up FileZilla with your site info. This should give you an idea
of how to set it up.

This was done for another group but change to your information-

Once you set it up, connect to your site, then copy the remote files to your

To add to what has been said, here are some detailed instructions:

1. Open Front Page.
2. Choose File | New
3. Choose New Web Site | More Web Site Templates
4. Choose Empty web Site and specify the location on your C: drive
where you want the site, such as C:\my-new-website\
5. Once that's complete, you'll have a new empty web site on your
computer.
6. Close Front Page

THEN and only then, use FTP to download every file from the remote site
to the empty web site you just created. (EXCEPT the files in the
vti_... folders on your remote site.

Now open the new web site (on your local computer) in Front Page and
recalculate links.
