Hi!

I moved the folder My Documents in WindowsXP to another
drive (E:) and filled it fith files.

Later I connected an old drive to transfer som files to my
computer. The problem is that my original E: drive
disappeared and the connected drive became E:.

When I disconneted the old drive the original E: drive
came back but all the files in My Documents were then
missing.

What has Windows done with my files and how can I get them
back?

Please help

Ulf

In the Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management >
Storage > Drive Management see if you can find the drive and associate
a new drive letter here.

Ulf--

*A Couple Convenient Ways to Keep Tabs on Files*

Once you locate your Misplace Documents folder--and an adjunct to this might
be not only to look where the way Thorsten directed you, but to get a free
app called DX Hog Hunt
http://www.dvxp.com/en/Downloads.aspx that will help you quickly map your
drives and search them for applications by type and space occupied, but if
you have Outlook--yes I know this is a group on XP--MSFT has a free download
called Lookout which will search My Documents much quicker and frankly less
erratically than XP search.

Either of these would probably locate your documents and then you could
assign them a Drive Letter of your choice as Thorsten suggests.

There are also a number of other 3rd party file organizers, and mods on
Explorer, but I find these two helpful and you can't beat the free price.

The reason, IIRC is your original disc still had an active partition
which takes drive letter precedence over the others except your primary
active partition (C) & will increment drive letters above it.
Reconnecting then searching through the older drive may help - I'd be
surprised if they've disappeared completely. Unhiding files is a good
habit to get into when such things happen.
