Mr Pounder

Thanks to ZillaWinOptimiser I have lost the file MSVCRT.DLL:??_U@YAPAXI@Z

This is preventing me from using AutoRoute 2005 which I desperately need for
my work.

The fixes I have tried do not work, this as I am too stupid to understand
them.

I believe that there is a method of simply reloading windows which should do
the trick?

Win'98se two systems disks.

Any help painfully explained would be much appreciated.

If your system acts as if it needs a reinstall that is an option.

I didn't hit a download from MS. Here is a place to get a file:

http://dll.softandco.com/dll/3/Msvcrt.dll.html

It goes in in:

C:\WINDOWS\system32 \msvcrt.dll

on my XP system. This is for Visual C++ 5.0.

If this doen't work, ask if it's a ".NET" application.

Thanks.
Got it and done it.
It still does not work.
I do not think that it is .NET application.

I really hate to venture into this area. It sounds like you might need
a fresh install and you stand to lose data, drivers, and information
you'll need or want later.

There are things that you should do (if you can), such as back up your
drivers with:

http://freeware4u.com/modules/mydownloads/singlefile.php?lid=172

Save to a jump drive, or another partition if you have any other than
c:.

Take note of various settings, such as your dialup number, logon, and
password. There are a great many similar setting you really need to
have ready. Your usenet logon, server, logon, password? Any logon and
passwords you might have stored in any program.

Grab any drivers that came with any hardware that you might have
added. You might have a full disk image on a system restore CD, I
dunno.

You pretty much want to save everything that you can before proceeding
to the recovery or fresh install. This isn't something that can be
done over a newsgroup. I can dig up some install tutorial sites if
this will help.

I'd have to recommend paying someone to do this if there is any
valuable data. or if you're unfamilar with setting things up after an
install. If it's a simple viral contamination, they might be able to
remove it and preserve your current setup. They might be able to
repair a corrupted registry.

Have you tried using Windows 98's System File Checker? If not look at

Which fixes? Did you already replace msvcirt.dll and msvcrt.dll? Did you
read and apply

Been there & done it.
Still no good.

You need to make sure that there are no other copies of Msvcirt.dll or
Msvcrt.dll elsewhere in your path.

To find out which directories are part of your path, one method (for your
w98 system): type "command" into the RUN... dialog; then in the console
window that pops up, type "path."

Also, chance Autoroute store copies of these in its own directory?
Speaking too of Autoroute, one Google hit indicates that you can find
copies of those two files that it ships with on its CD (for Autoroute
2000, the location was given as ...\acmsetup\ARoute\system\).

If you've been thorough about getting the correct versions of those two
DLLs as the only ones in your path, and still somehow receive the error
message... You could run (or have a geek friend run) Dependency Walker or
Fabio Toys, pointing them at Autoroute, and see if they redlight any DLL.

Also, one more option. Reinstall Autoroute. I'm not wagering its installer
is smart enough to fix the problem, but you could see what happens by
trying.

(Installer is a qualified Engineer ........ but not a computer person).

Done all of that....... AutoRoute (removed + reinstalled)
AutoRoute is genuine BTW.

2005 my PC is off for a 'service.
5 years old, never been formatted + he can fix the problem for £40.
