I have lost my File association in Vista for EXE's , any idea why and how to
get them back?

Hello,
Can you boot to the DVD drive and choose the repair options?
There should be a system restore option present in WinRE and since this is
based on the info on the DVD rather than the hard drive
the affected change for associations with exe should not be present.
System Restore should resolve the issue.
You may want to mount the local registy hive while in WinRE prior to
running system restore
then record the values under:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\exefile
After running system restore.
Compare the values.
Thanks,

Hello,

I seem to be having the same problem as many of us are. All my files
only open with VLC media player. The first time this was not a
problem, and I uninstalled it and everything went back to normal. I
reinstalled it from a different source, thinking it was a virus or
something, but the problem restarted, and everything still opened
with VLC. I tryed to uninstall it, it worked, but all my programs
became blank notes, or simply do not open. When i click on them, it
asks me what program I want to associate it with. I can't do
anything, run setups at all. I can't even run a script or reg editor.
Help me out please!

Try this to restore your exe file association. Copy and paste this into a
blank text file.
Save the text file and change the extension from TXT to REG , right-click
and select ' Merge'.
