I am running XP on my laptop and the favorites disappeared. I looked in the
recycle bin and don't see the folders. Is there a way that I can restore
these favorite folders? If so how? Thanks.

I'm running IE6 and I an only showing one folder in my favorites list when I
open up my browser. There is also only that one folder "links" when I open
up explorer and look under documents and settings. I did a search and could
not find the folders. Any suggestions?

Are all folders found when you open Windows Explorer to C:\Documents and
Settings\[username]\Favorites <=this folder?

Had you imported Favorites from another machine?

The folders do not show up in Windows Explorer. Some of the favorites had
been imported, but the others were self identified. The only thing that was
changed on the machine was the display resolution, and then I had to do a
system restore after that time. I have since done a system restore back to
March 12, when I knew that I had the favorites. I didn't actively do
anything to eliminate the favorites file. It's strange that the only folder
that remained was the Links, which is empty.

did do that after I found out that I had lost my favorites, but I still

We had been using the Favorites in IE explorer for a number of years before
this "disappearing act" occurred. No other abnormalities in the behavior of
the computer.

You haven't answered my questions: How did you export the Favorites from the
other machine and how did you import them to the machine in question?

If they're gone, they're gone, I'm afraid. I'd like to assist you in making
sure this doesn't happen again. I suspect your export/import technique may
have something to do with it but a hijackware infection can't be ruled out
either.

Thanks for the help. When I added the favorites list, I did not do it as
you recommended in the import/export. I just copied and pasted. They had
been on her computer for about three years. She had also added a number of
folders that are also gone. I have an active virus checker by Grisoft.
Thanks for the help. I will use the recommended process in the future. I
thought that the folders might be hidden some place on the hard drive.
