I was cleaning up a Windows 2000 machine for a friend. I cleaned the
spyware/adware, etc. I started cleaning out all of the silly Web Search
tools from Add/Remove programs. While in there, I also uninstalled SBC DSL
software, because they are switching to cable. I was prompted to reboot,
and when I did, I lost the ethernet card and network connectivity.
When I look in Device Manager, I see the card, but the heading says
'Unknown' then lists the card. I downloaded the drive on another machine,
and copied it over to this one via CD-Rom. I update the driver and reboot,
and still nothing, same scenarion. I tried a different card, it identifies
the new card by name ( as it did to the first one) but still has the yellow
exclamation mark, and no connectivity.
I watched as it rebooted, and the lights on the network card flash until
Windows 2000 starts, then it is as though the card is turned off. I do have
a live connection.
Any thoughts??
