I have been experiencing a problem losing emails. from my inbox and my
sub-folders, many of which are from my business clients, that require a
response from me. this is posing a serious problem for me.

I don't know where to begin to look to correct this problem. my question is,
what would cause this problem and how can it be corrected ?

Is there a way to automatically backup my emails so my mail can be
recovered if necessary ?

What email client are you using? Do you mean that you receive emails and
they disappear or that you are not receiving emails expected.
(How you can back up depends on the email client you are using.)
If you could clarify this perhaps we can help you.

Are you either 1) filtering your view or 2) autoarchiving your mail?

For your view check: View > Current View > make sure "Messages" is checked

For autoarchive check: Tools > Options > Other > Autoarchive. Check the
frequency of autoarchiving. You can tell it to prompt you before it
autoarchives and even not to delete what is being autoarchived.

email I have already received disappears from my inbox and other mail
folders. I am using Outlook 2003

When you say "disappears" can you be a bit more explicit? Does it, for
example, disappear immediately after being read? If not, when does it
disappear?

No, It does not disappear immediately after it is read. only when I come
back later it is gone.

You must have a setting which is hiding email that is read. A simple check
on this would be set up an account for the email in Outlook Express and read
it there

Quick check (assuming this is in Outlook) - menu -> View -> Current View.
Make certain that "Show All Messages" is checked as opposed to "Hide Read
Messages".
