lost e-mails

I set up a folder for each month to save the e-mails that I receive. These
are extremely important to my business. Are there any way for me to retrieve
these. Also, why would I want to compact my e-mails and if I do can I
retrieve them?

What's lost, and therefore needs retrieving?

Database compaction gets rid of some no longer useful items
in the index to the email, and does not disturb the files containing
the email itself. Therefore, it lets you find the email faster, and
still see it.
