lost dvds

only way i can get comp to work is disable dvds in safe mode then computer
will start if i enable it freezes at startup or when i try to enable again
xp pro sp3 p4 3.73ghz with 4gb ram asus p5n32e-sli mb ati allinwonder x1900
graphics card.
dvds pioneer dvd rw dvr 110d and a nec dvdrw nd-3540a
