I just purchased a new PC with Vista installed. To move files from my old PC
I installed the HD in the new computer as a secondary HD. All worked fine.
When I tried to access the files on this secondary drive ( that used to run
Windows XP) I got a security warning so I created a new user with the same
name I used on my old computer. Vista appears to have deleted that user and
corresponding user account folders from my old hard drive and created an
empty account/directory on user c:\user on the computers primary drive.
Please tell me that the files have not been deleted from my hold HD .... and
how would I find them?

The data is still probably there but just in the original profile...
it's probably just a matter of taking ownership.

Otherwise, put the drive back in the original machine...
and create a folder on your C: drive
then just copy the data there

The folder of course should not be within any profile

in other words

C:\folder (for example)
