lost desktop

on bootup in xp pro all i have is the background all the
desktop and icons are gone . the mouse buttons dont work
either.thanks dale

Boot to the Safe Mode and create a new user profile. Test this profile
by logging on. If all is well here, copy the old user profile to the
new user.
