Lost desktop trash can

Hi Colonel Blip,

The original Recycle Bin Desktop Icon (with special properties such as right-click >
Properties > Display delete confirmation dialog) can be hidden by using a third-party
program such as TweakUI, by editing the registry, or by using Group Policy.

If it was hidden using a program such as TweakUI, try running the program and
deselecting the option.

If it was hidden by editing the registry, use "Method 2: Edit the Registry to Restore
the Recycle Bin" in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base Article. Note: Although
the Article was written for Windows XP, "Method 2" works for Windows 2000.

KB810869 - Recycle Bin Does Not Appear on the Desktop
SECTION: Method 2: Edit the Registry to Restore the Recycle Bin
http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=810869

If neither of the above solves the problem, and you are also missing the original My
Computer Desktop Icon (with special properties such as right-click > Properties:
System Properties), the original Recycle Bin Desktop Icon may have been hidden using
Group Policy. If you have a System Administrator, contact him/her to restore the
Recycle Bin icon. If you are the sole Administrator of your standalone computer do
the following:

- Run gpedit.msc
- Navigate to the following node:
User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Desktop
- Double-click "Hide all icons on Desktop" and change the policy from
Enabled to Not Configured.

Hi again Colonel Blip,

The only other things I can think of are:

- Right-click the desktop and select Auto Arrange
- Right-click the desktop, select Active Desktop and select Show Desktop Icons

Ultimate solution to this was to go back to a previous Ghost image and
restore it. Nothing else seemed to work, but that did. I'm back in norm mode
now. Thanks for the efforts.
