My computer has run fine with no problems until today. During startup it gave
me some kind of error about the logon. After clicking OK it started up fine,
except my normal desktop is gone. What i have now is the basic desktop with
all the shortcuts, but no folders that i created. Also when i click a
shortcut that is shown, that software acts as if it is brand new and wants to
be registered. The computer runs fine(like it did before). I tried LKGC and
there was only "PROFILE 1" available to use - I tried it and that is the new
desktop. What do I do to get the previous desktop back?
Thank you in advance for your help in this matter!!!

Sounds like profile corruption. You can rename the profile(while logged on
as local admin), then when the user logs on again a new profile will be
created from the image in \default user. You can then copy over the items
you need from the renamed profile. Copy the folder contents not the folders
themselves. When your sure you have all you need, you can delete the renamed
profile(s). Use the import function of your e-mail software.

Ok, I read that solution in a previous posting but, I'm not sure how to do
this. My computer is setup to logon automatically. Where do I find \default
user. How, when, why, do i use my email software. I'm relieved to know I can
get this info back - I just don't want to screw it up(lots of photos and
financial stuff).

* Hold the shift key while logging off to bypass auto logon. Then logon as
local administrator to perform the steps above.

Where do I find \default
| user.
* You don't need to find it. The new profile creation will happen when you
next logon as the user after you have renamed the corrupt profile.

How, when, why, do i use my email software.
* If this means you don't use email then skip this part.
