I just discovered my 13 year old has visited less-than savory websites
recently. My bad. So much for trust. Anyhow, I immediately bought and
downloaded Netnanny. So that MY account can do whatever it wants and he is
restricted, I had to create a User account for the little twirp. But we lost
a lot of games and programs, which are showing up on MY user desktop but not
his. These include games from CD as well as downloaded, plus programs like
Word, GSAK and Cache-Mate (both geo-caching related), MS Publisher,
Mapsource---programs that wouldn't have any kind of offensive content! He
does not need the geo-caching or Publisher programs, but he will use Word for
schoolwork, and the missing games have been parent-approved. What happened?
What can I do to make them available to his User account? Thank you.

Hello,

Go to your start menu folder:
c:\documents and settings\<YOUR USERNAME>\Start Menu
c:\documents and settings\<YOUR USERNAME>\Desktop

and copy the items you want to his start menu here:
c:\documents and settings\<LITTLE TWIRP's USERNAME>\Start Menu
c:\documents and settings\<LITTLE TWIRP's USERNAME>\Desktop

Alternatively, you can copy them to these folders and it will appear in both
users start menu and desktop
c:\documents and settings\All Users\Start Menu
c:\documents and settings\All Users\Desktop

While a program like Netnanny may help, be aware that most software like
this can be easily bypassed. See the link below.

I appreciate the help getting the icons straightened out. Now his games are
on his account and my programs are on mine! As for circumventing security
programs, right now we feel pretty comfortable since he is still so
unsophisticated regarding computer use that he didn't realize that once I
cleared a paper jam out of the computer the queue would print, nor does he
know about the site history that I checked out once I saw what was coming off
the printer (not spend-the-rest-of-your-life-in-your-room bad---Andrew Dice
Clay nursery rhymes)---he just thinks his Mom is REALLY smart! But you're
right, I need to stay on top of this both technologically, as well as just
plain old-fashioned parental supervision. I'm too old for this stuff!
