Hi there. While working with tech support from McAfee, I somehow deleted
something that tells my computer I'm me. As part of the tech support I copied
my regedit file to my desktop as a backup; however, when I rebooted the
computer after doing what tech support told me, my desktop was blank and the
backup file is gone. Also gone are all 'my' documents-photos, word documents,
etc. I have searched the hard drive and cannot find these documents anywhere!
I check the trash and older files and photos I had deleted are still there.
Help!

I think you should take this up with McAfee. We don't know what they had
you do, we don't know why they had you do it and if you had a virus for
example and we instructed you to use System Restore to take the system back
to a time prior to when this happened, you could re-infect the system. In
fact, because we don't know anything about what McAfee had you do we can't
be sure that instructions we give you won't put you in a worse situation
than you are already in.

You might run a search in Windows Explorer for the file types of the files
that appear to be missing, for example, jpeg or gif as the files may be
there, just not in the locations you expected.
