Lost DC can't restart

I lost my main DC, with DNS & WINS & GC due to 3 disks
failing with hours of each other, due to a faulty raid
controller.
Have had to rebuild server without RAID controller for now.

I have restored the machine using CA ArcServe
(brightStore) over the network.

But when I restarted the server after restore I get 'A
Transaction Recover Failed' as covered in article 311502

When I went and checked the files, using ntdsutil the
files appeared in the right location (or so I think),
there is no restore.mrk file anywhere on the disk.
Haven't tried option 2 which is system State restore in
Directory restore mode.

I'm worried about the above - If I try an integrity check
in the util program, it errors saying
JET_errfileAccessDenied, because the TMP is in use?
So no recover or even repair will work.

Also I'm worried about the restore because the best
restore I can get is from about 3 weeks ago,(don't ask, as
someone else is due a serious roasting) & I'm worried what
that will do to the other 2 DC's & their data which are
remote to HO, if I'm to do the Authoritative Restore,
especially as Arcserve does not appear to let you choose
what you are restoring, except the whole System State.

I know this is a little long winded, but I thought I had
better say what I have tried.

Andrew,

If you've got DCs at other locations, you're much better off just rejoining
the server as a domain controller and letting the data replicate. You can
then restore non ad-integrated DNS zones, and your WINS database from tape.

Sorry, Original post wasn't as clear as it should have
been, (was very late at night here). The failed server is
the Master in a mixed Mode enviroment. It is also the
Primary DNS AD server, the other non AD Zones are running
on an NT4 box quite happily.
I'm not worried about WINS as such, let it rebuild!

So does this mean I need to seize the master roles from
this server, rebuild the server as same name, same IP,
then rerun DCPROMO?

Sounds scary.

Andrew
