lost control of IE

I'm running windows XP home edition
I am the administrator for the system
My kids used my computer and now when I open IE it goes to
address "about:blank" I get a slurry of pop ups and
requests to allow gator to download a program. I have
tried to reassign the "home Page" in the internet
properties but I can't enter any new info (the field is
greyed out). If I go to the internet tools, I get an
error message when I try to change it saying I need to
check with the system administrator. I have run both
adaware 6 and Spybot with the latest updates with no
result

Any suggestions?

See if the removal of gator was done correctly.
