Hi,
I was configuring my sisters' router and could do that using 192.168.1.1
and username/password. I did this OK and enabled security and everything
worked (router would require that it restarted at different points of the
procedures). However at some point the router stopped responding to the
192.168.1.1 address. Instead I just get a Google search page of results for
192.168.1.1. The router continues to work OK and I can access the internet
fine. I just can't log back into the router. This happened once, we reset the
router and regained access. Then when I reconfigured the router (just
specified the wireless connections) it happened again. Wired access or
wireless access allows connection to the internet but not to the router
itself.
A) Is this common?
B) Can I determine exactly what IP address the router has (maybe some reason
it changed from 192.168.1.1?
Thanks,
Montreal.

The router seems to stop responding to all requests to its internal
"web" pages that configures the router. I have seen this before and
most of the time that router is starting to fail (die.) Depending how
old this router is you might want to change it under warranty or
replace it.

Try deleting temp internet files and try again and make sure you are using
http://192.168.1.1 in the address bar as it sounds like you are putting
192.168.1.1 in the wrong place such as a search engine box. You can also
simply put http://192.168.1.1 in the run box with the web browser closed and
hit OK. Use the command ipconfig /all on your computer and the router would
be the default gateway which most likely is 192.168.1.1. If your computer
had the wrong default gateway it would not be able to access the internet.
