lost contacts and calendar in upgrade to office 2003

I had office XP installed in my laptop and bought and office 2003 professional upgrade.
when i did the installation, i select complete intallation insted of upgrade. when i finish the installation
process, all my old contacts and calendar where gone. is there a way to recover those, i didn't had any backup.

Search for *.pst to include hidden. However if you did an inst.as apposed to
upgrade yr origonal *.pst may have been overwritten, particularly if it was
the default name.
As you may now realise, backups are important.
