My Outlook 2000 crashed and the repair utility only made
matters worse so now I can't even get back into Outlook to
export. What are the file names/locations for my contact
lists so I can copy them or back them up?

Thanks to anyone who takes a moment to save one poor souls
many hours of work....

All your Outlook data, including contacts, messages, etc. are stored in
a file with a .PST extension. Look here for all the information you
need on backup and restoration of Outlook data:

What happens when you try to get into Outlook? Any error messages, and
if so, what are they (exact text please)?

I don't use outlook express at all. Only use Outlook to
send html newsletters quarterly to clients. When I went
to add an address to my contact list...there were 0
contacts and should have been 500+. Looked around and
couldn't find the list. PS: My personal file I copied
onto another PC has 0 names in it. Is there anywhere
else I could get back the old email addresses from maybe
a past mailing. Can you copy old email addresses from
that?

Thanks so much for your time on this. Its hundreds of
hours of building a email potential client list and I'd
hate to loose it....

Even if you don't use Outlook Express yourself, Outlook needs it to work
properly. (See http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=230076 for the
reasons.) Did you ever do a search of your drive to find all .PST
files? Once you find them, you can try opening them in Outlook via File
| Open | Personal Folders File to see if any of them contain the missing
contacts. (It's usually more reliable to re-use or open .PST files
directly rather than import from them.) To answer your question, there
are 3rd party programs that will extract e-mail addresses from e-mail
messages.
