Lost Connectivity

I currently have a Windows 2000 server with a little over 200 users and 30+
printers. I am using 192.168.xxx.xxx subnet. Recently (within the last 2 -
3 months) random users started losing connectivity with some (not all) of
their mapped drives. The first symtom is usually when they can't print
(printer not available). If you open My Computer at this point, you will see
some of the mapped drives with a red X. If I click on the drive, it will
eventually come back. But most of the time, they still can't print unless I
synchronize the drives or have them log off and log on again.

Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing this?

I've seen this happen when you enter a DNS server as alternate on the
client, but that DNS server is not for the AD domain.
Most commonly, the DNS server set up for the domain is the is set as
preferred and your ISP's DNS server as alternate.
What DNS server does your clients with this problem point to for alternate?

We are currently configured to Obtain IP address and DNS server address
automatically.

Let me mention again, that this just started approx 2 - 3 months ago. This
server ran for about 3 years prior to that without this problem. I can't
think of anything that has changed other than adding new people. We were
concerned at one point, that we might be running out of IP addresses on this
subnet. We have moved some people to a new subnet but this problem started
well before we made this change.

Are you sure your DHCP server is handing out the correct DNS settings?

What does ipconfig /all show for those users?
