I'm trying to understand what is the underlying problem. Here's the
symptoms:
1) I installed WinXP.
2) Reboot into XP and configure a few things (like explorer setttings)
3) I reboot back into Win98 command console via a bootable CD and run
Drive Image. It can't make an image of the OS I just installed
because of lost clusters.
4) I reboot back into XP, run scandisk and defrags.
5) Then reboot with Win98. At which point Drive Image suceeds to
making an image of the XP OS.
6) Reboot back into XP, install some software.
7) repeat step 3
8) repeat step 4
9) repeat step 5
Why am I have a problem with lost clusters? The harddrive is fairly
new--its a Maxtor 120GB (partitioned into 4 approx equal partitions).
My motherboard is brand spanking new (Gigabyte 7N400 PRo2). CPU
brand spanking new too.
Any one have any ideas what's wrong? Is my ide controller on the MB
bad? Is the harddrive bad? Is this a configuration issue (like write
behind cache or something)?
Thanks for the feedback....
