Our microsoft software was installed by Dell upon
purchase. We recently had to reinstall everything and
now cannot use our software because we do not have the 25
character product key to access it. We contacted Dell
who maintains that they cannot help us and that we will
need to purchase new software. Is there a way to obtain
this code through Microsoft? Since Microsoft sold the
software to Dell? Since Dell installed the software -
they should have the original product key - one would
think. Any ideas how to obtain the product key?

If Dell installed it, Dell is the only company who can help. Microsoft is
not responsible for what the OEM's do. Dell should give you another key
though, i would call again and try to talk with someone else.

Chris;
There is no requirement for any OEM including Dell to provide a
replacement Product Key.
It would be nice if the OEMs would, but they do not have to.

Renee;
Dell is your only source of help on this issue.
Microsoft keeps no records related to OEM Product Keys, that is the
responsibility of the OEM if the OEM desires to do so.
One of the many reasons OEM is cheaper than retail.

Look carefully all over the case.
The Product Key sticker is about 1" x 3" and should be affixed to the
computer.
Otherwise you may be forced to buy another copy of Windows.

Or are you referring to the Works Suite, MS Word etc?
If that is the case, the Product Key is with the packaging the CDs
came in.
